Vuvuzelas

I know I'm a grumpy bastard, but those things are going to be seriously irritating after 4 weeks.

Every now and again you could make out human voices when something exciting happened (so pretty rarely in the France/Uraguay game) but it was immediately drowned out again by the demented bee swarm.

  1. Yes, you know all that talk about that mysterious bee hive colony collapse over the last year or so.

I think we now have the answer: they've all been rounded up and sent to South Africa.

Incidentally, the note that the vuvuzela produces is a B flat, the same note as the Scottish bagpipe drone. I suspect the Scots were in McCahoots with FIFA after they got eliminated from the tournament.

  2. It started being irritating after 5 minutes. It's terrible even from the sofa, and I don't want to imagine to be over there, trying to play football

  3. Apparently 42 people are killed every day on South Africa's roads. Obviously, trucks sound their horns to warn pedestrians but they have gradually become deaf to the sound so they get run over...

I don't think we'll notice it any more come final time...we better make sure to watch out for lorries....

  4. You know something - I was almost glad to hear the band playing during England's game. They'd obviously done their homework and learned every song in B flat.

(Not sure I want to talk about the game yet - very mixed bag...)

  6. From the bbc.co.uk site, ''South Africa ponders vuvuzela ban''

''France captain Patrice Evra has already blamed the noise generated by the vuvuzelas, which has been likened to the drone of thousands of bees, for his side's poor showing in their opening group game against Uruguay, which finished goalless.

He said: "We can't sleep at night because of the vuvuzelas. People start playing them from 6am.
"We can't hear one another out on the pitch because of them."

  7. Jaime, who should be studying for his finals, has set up a facebook group: Odio el ruido de las vuvuzelas/I hate noise of the vuvucela

I couldn't resist ''borrowing'' one of the groups photos....

  9. ...there are.

What happened to goal scoring? I thought the ball was supposed to be a goalkeeper's nightmare. (Green excepted).
